Heureka Welcomes ECJ Verdict Against Google Aimed at Improving Level-Playing Field in Online Search
Heureka Group welcomes the September 10th ruling by the European Court of Justice that Alphabet's search service Google has thwarted competition and deprived customers of choice, including those in the nine markets of Central and Eastern Europe in which Heureka operates.
"Online shoppers can reap the benefits of competition only if there's a level playing field. The ruling by the European Court of Justice regarding the search-engine dominance of Alphabet's Google is a step in the right direction," said Heureka CEO David Chmelar, adding that the verdict backs the landmark 2017 legal decision that paved the way for the EU's broader regulation of the online economy.
"The coming weeks will show whether Google complies with the prevailing EU Digital Markets Act, which is designed to enable everyone, including comparison operators and online merchants, to thrive despite Google's domination of online search," said David Chmelar.
